Business: Company Information and Profiles tools

A guide with resources for conducting secondary business research.

Using the Company Information Tool

You can also use the "Fields" drop-down to limit your results by people (potentially CEOs, etc.), Reviews & Products, Company Entities, NAICS codes, DUNS numbers, or Ticker Symbols

Company Profiles and Information - Ebsco

Business Source Complete provides company information and profiles tools. Make sure that Business Source Complete is selected and in the database list to see these options (select "Choose Databases" if it is not already included). These tools can be used to find company information, executives, and reports, or used as a starting point to find other sources or related companies or industry information.

Once Business Source Complete is selected, click on "Advanced Search" and scroll down to limit by company profiles. Add your company name to the search bar and start looking through results!

Codes

From the Dun & Bradstreet website:

"The Dun & Bradstreet D-U-N-S® Number is a unique nine-digit identifier for businesses that is associated with a business’s Live Business Identity."

These numbers are assigned to individual businesses/branches.

For more information on finding D-U-N-S numbers or getting a number (including the benefits), use the link below.

"A NAICS (pronounced NAKES) Code is a classification within the North American Industry Classification System" (NAICS Association, 2017). NAICS are codes that designate industries. The codes start by dividing general industries but can be further "drilled" down to be more specific.

NAICS codes can be helpful to use when searching for industry information in business library databases and using some of the Government links included in this guide.

To find a breakdown of the codes, use the link below:

"A ticker is a symbol representing a fund or a company's stock on an exchange. The ticker can be the most dependable way to identify a security because it is less likely to change than a security name. The length of a ticker will depend on the stock exchange it is listed on. Tickers can communicate share class, bankruptcy status, and other information through special codes appended to the company’s base symbol" (Morningstar, 2022).

Using the Company Profile Tool

Company Profiles provide MarketLine and MedTrack (Pharmaceutical companies) Reports. Both reports provide company overviews and information regarding competitors, products, and SWOT analyses (for larger companies) for private and public companies. You can find these by searching using the "Company Profiles" limiter (instructions to the left!).

MedTrack reports do not always contain as much information as MarketLine reports.

Clicking directly on the MarketLine or Medtrack Report will bring up the pdf with company information, key facts, business descriptions, major biographies, SWOT analyses, and more.

Business Source Complete

Clicking on the company name will give you search results from periodicals, SWOT reports, and other sources related to the company and industry.
