Business: Company Information and Profiles tools

A guide with resources for conducting secondary business research.

Company Profiles and Information - Ebsco

Business Source Complete provides company information and profiles tools. Make sure that Business Source Complete is selected and in the database list to see these options (select "Choose Databases" if it is not already included). These tools can be used to find company information, executives, and reports, or used as a starting point to find other sources or related companies or industry information.

Using the Company Information Tool

The Company Information tool will allow you to search by Company Name, Parent company, ticker symbol, or keyword.

If searching by "Company Name," an alphabetical list will appear, allowing researchers to browse companies may have similar names and could potentially be part of the same parent company.

If searching by "Ultimate Parent," parent companies are listed in the results. Researchers then have the option to view subsidiary companies by expanding using the plus icon (where available).

Search results will provide the Company Name (Ticker), City, State, Country/Territory, and Revenue (US $) columns. Click on the company name to see more information, such as company contact, financial, and industry information, and executives.

More information, journal articles, and trade magazine articles regarding related companies and industries can also be found using the links on the left hand side.

There are also many ways to limit the search using advanced search options (found below the basic search bar). If you leave the search bar blank and make "Limit your results" selections, the search results will present an alphabetical list of companies meeting the criteria.

Using the Company Profile Tool

Company Profiles provide MarketLine and MedTrack (Pharmaceutical companies) Reports. Both reports provide company overviews and information regarding competitors, products, and SWOT analyses (for larger companies) for private and public companies.

MedTrack reports do not always contain as much information as MarketLine reports.

Clicking on the business name will give you a brief description of the report. There are also links on the left-hand side that will link to journal article, trade magazine article, etc. searches for the business name by source type. These can be helpful if you are looking for specific types of information. For example, in the example below, the "Reports" link brings back SWOT analysis reports for 1-800-Flowers.Com, Inc.

Clicking direclty on the MarketLine or Medtrack Report will bring up the pdf with company information, key facts, business descriptions, major biographies, SWOT analyses, and more.
