Business: Consumer Information

A guide with resources for conducting secondary business research.

Search Stragegies for Demographic and Consumer Information

Demographic and consumer behaviour information can be found in the Business Databases and in Google searches. Here are some helpful search strategies:

  • Enter your topic and select "Market Research Report" from the Document Type (when using Business Source Complete).
  • Use synonyms to find more information.
  • Use broader terms (e.g., "footwear") to include more information, or use narrower terms (e.g., "runners") to get narrow down your results.
  • Try adding words broader terms, such as demograph*, or narrower terms to fit particular demographic groups, such as "generation x" or [your topic] AND (hispanic* OR latino* OR latina*), to your topic (i.e., [your topic] + [demographic terms]).
  • Try adding the terms "(buyer* OR consumer* OR customer* OR purchaser* OR shopper*) AND (data OR research OR survey*)" to your topic as well.
